About Ira Graham IV

Ira Graham IV (b. 2002) is a Black American artist primarily working with film photography. Ira’s work centers his perspective on Blackness, Gender, and Emotionality, with images that serve as reflections on his life as an intergenerational victim of capitalism, patriarchy, and white supremacy.

I document others to let them be seen, and when photographing, I look to monumentalize the subject’s presence and centralize their narrative. For this reason, much of my focus has been on the Black fems within my life and in the world, as I see their liberation from patriarchy and the nuclear family as the liberation of us all.

I document myself to reflect on my past by seeking, dissecting, and laying bare traumatic memories to catalyze my future growth–liberating my inner child, realigning my present self with what he would want for me, and seeking a degree of self-care he never knew existed.
